Sky Player available for Ireland Media Center users

I just received this press release from Microsoft.  More content is always a good thing.  Nice to see our European Media Center friends getting something this time around.

Full press release after the break.

Sky Player on Windows 7 Now Available in Ireland

Watch TV from Sky Live and On Demand with Windows 7

Sky Player, Sky’s online TV service, launches in Ireland on Windows 7 today creating a new and innovative way for people in Ireland to watch live and on demand TV from Sky on a PC.  The service is simple and easy to use and gives Windows 7 users access to the wide range of high-quality live and on demand pay TV currently on Sky Player, which includes the latest blockbuster movies, live action sports, must see entertainment, programming dedicated to kids, music, the arts and thought provoking documentaries.

“We’re delighted the Irish public can now take advantage of the full capabilities we deliver in Windows 7.  With Windows Media Center we are continuing to deliver on how people are choosing to view their entertainment.  Teaming up with Sky was a no brainer, delivering rich content through the power and ease of Windows Media Center gives people the best possible selection and viewing experience right at their PC,” commented Ronald Dockery, Client Manager, Microsoft Ireland.

Mark Deering, Director, Sky Ireland adds: “We are committed to giving our customers more choice and flexibility in how they access Sky content.  Sky Player in Windows 7 offers yet another innovative and attractive way through which to access a wide range of live and on-demand TV.  Whether it’s an existing customer looking to get even more from their Sky subscription, or someone connecting with Sky for the first time through their PC, everyone can enjoy a high-quality online TV experience through Windows 7.”

Microsoft’s European Development Centre (EDC) TV played a key role in the development of the Windows Media Centre project with Sky.  The Microsoft EDC TV team was responsible for the development, test and program management of the Sky Player on Windows Media Center project. The project included development of the UI, TV Guide, and integration with Sky web services and the Sky Silverlight player in our Windows Media Center internet TV platform.

“We deployed a full featured team including developers, testers and program management which drove the project from requirements management all the way to beta testing and launch. This demonstrates again the value of having a core development team based in Europe,” commented Renaud Bordelet Group Manager, E&D Division of Windows TV Group, Microsoft Ireland.

With Windows 7 it’s easy to find and watch great TV from Sky – all in one place, with a consistent experience, including:

· Search for shows using keywords, browse programme galleries or scroll through the familiar on screen guide

· Touch-enabled interface* for simple panning and gesture navigation

· Works with any Windows Media Center enabled remote control

For existing Sky TV customers, Sky Player on Windows 7 offers another way to view their Sky TV, in addition to their set top box. For non Sky TV customers, Sky Player on Windows 7 offers a wide range of live channels and on demand content via a number of different packages through a monthly subscription.

Sky Player currently has 27 live streaming TV channels and provides a comprehensive on-demand library which includes 500 movies to download at anytime from Sky Movies, Sky Box Office and thousands of programmes spanning entertainment, sport documentaries, kids and culture
